Lapedra Tolson

Founder and Principal

Top-notch design and engineering belong in the federal government.

Founder and Principal, Lapedra (LP) Tolson received a B.A. in Broadcast Productions from North Carolina A&T State University. After completing her undergraduate degree, she enlisted in the United States Air Force. She served as a combat photographer, completing a tour in Iraq and garnered many awards for her striking imagery and exceptional airmanship.

After separating from the military, she entered the federal workspace in Washington D.C. and began a career in design. During that time, she studied at the University of Baltimore, where she earned an M.A. in Publications Design. Looking for a change of pace, she moved to England and earned a second M.A. in Filmmaking from Kingston University in Kingston Upon Thames, England. After returning to Washington D.C., Lapedra continued building her career, working as a designer and researcher as a Federal employee and government contractor at DHS Intelligence & Analysis, The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA), the Federal Retirement Thrift Investment Board (tsp.gov), and Agile Six Applications, Inc.

In 2020, she combined her education and unique background and created Friends From The City, a digital design and tech agency unlike any currently within the civic tech space.

Lapedra has earned a variety of recognition for her work throughout her career. In addition, she’s a music lover and self-proclaimed foodie who enjoys traveling the world to experience other cultures through their cuisine.
